Eat - [1989] - Sell Me A God [251k VBR]

Eat - [1989] - Sell Me A God [251k VBR]

Sell Me a God (1989)is a lost treasure in the whole Indie-Rock thing of the late 80s.

All things said. This is one of my 5 favourite albums of all time, trying to squeeze that sentence from my lips.

The lyrics are urban, but timeless.
Like one of my favourite sentences from the Tom Wait'ish' track "Red Moon":
"Is life worth living?, well it depends on the liver."

I don't have that many albums that don't have love as a main infulence of pain, this is more like Munchs' "Scream", the way you feel utterly lost, and watching people around you, everything like a theatrical scene.

Ange Dolittle's strong controlled vocals lead the way on this debut album from 1989. It rocked it's way through World Domination, petrol, Mr. and Mrs. Smack, bums, drink, and boredom. Theirs is an urban world full of chaos and falling apart. Paul and Max Noble provide excellent lead on guitar and are always in control no matter the pace. The individual members worked as a team to create the final songs. The album did not chart.

Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself (2005)

A mate of mine (not really into music) said; dude, you have to get Imogen Heap [allmusic link] for me. I cant find it anywhere and she's so god damn good. And i found her, i listened to the tunes and yeah, he was right.
Imogen Heap hails from Essex in England, but now lives and works in London. She started out as a singer/songwriter, but not the usual kind. She played alot of alternative music with alot of electronica and classical influences mixed up. The first thing i noticed was the originality, then the sound and voice picture which reminded me of Kate Bush. Her first album was praised, but i really like the second album better.
Speak for Yourself is one of those albums you either like or hate. It has its own sound, and although it copies some from other influences its still Imogen Heap's sound. Excellent vocal performances and electronica sounds mixed with a little of the classical influence that comes from learning the piano in that way sounds heavenly in my ears.

Tracklist:
Headlock
Goodnight and Go
Have you got it In You?
Loose ends
Hide and Seek
Clear the Area
Daylight Robbery
The Walk
Just for Now
I am in love With you
Closing in
The moment i Said it

Although her voice has a really powerful touch to it, the lyrics are frail and tells us about alot of things that seems personal. For instance:
"Just put back the car keys,
Or somebody's gonna get hurt
Who are you calling at this hour?
Sit down, come round, I need you now
We'll work it all out together,
But we're getting nowhere tonight
Now sleep, I promise it'll all seem better,
Somehow in time"

Ive always liked artists that makes lyrics with a personal touch and this is one of them. Check her out:)

Wilco - Kicking Television: Live In Chicago (2005)

It all started about a year ago, i was driving over to my ex's home and stopped by a gas station. As i almost always do i checked the cd's they were selling there and to my great surprise i found Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for only 10$ worth of money. I bought it along with a hotdog and a coke. After coming home again i checked the cd out and it wasn't bad at all. although I've never heard Wilco [allmusic link], i always reckoned they were good since the papers always praise them (at least here in Norway they do).
One year later i popped into the nearest branch of Platekompaniet (a cd store) and saw that they had a large sale, and thats where i found this one. I almost never buy live cd's when i don't have history with the artist, but the store clerk advised me to buy it, and a couple of hours later i understood why.

The first song i played after inserting the disk into my computer was "Jesus, Etc." i was immediately struck by how they somehow had incorporated country into their pop-rock. I guess its just the steel guitar. Anyways this and a few others grew on me for a few days, and now i have a new favorite live album.
Tracklist cd1:
Misunderstood
Company in my Back
The Late greats
Hell is Chrome
Handshake Drugs
I am Trying to break your heart
Shot in the Arm
At least that's What you said
Wishful Thinking
Jesus, Etc.
I'm the Man who loves you
Kicking television

Tracklist cd2:
Via Chicago
Hummingbird
Muzzle of Bees
One by One
Airline to Heaven
Radio Cure
Ashes of American Flags
Heavy Metal Drummer
Poor Places
Spiders (kidsmoke)
Comment (if all men are truly Brothers)

As i already have told you, "Jesus, Etc." was one of my favorites and here are some other tunes from the album: "Wishful Thinking", "I am Trying to break your Heart", "At least that's what you said". They are all beautiful and i love some of the lyrics. I don't know what really hit me with Wilco, but something did, maybe its the steel guitar, the frail vocals and the random rantings on the guitar. Anyways its a new love and i am deeply satisfied with it.

Hide and Seek

Just found this amazing English artist called Imogen Heap with wonderful music and lyrics:

"Hide and Seek"

where are we?
what the hell is going on?
the dust has only just begun to form
crop circles in the carpet
sinking feeling

spin me round again
and rub my eyes,
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads - heavy

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines
all those years
they were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before the takeover,
the sweeping insensitivity of this still life

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines (oh, you won't catch me around here)
blood and tears (hearts)
they were here first

Mmmm whacha say,
Mmmm that you only meant well?
well of course you did
Mmmm whacha say,
Mmmm that its all for the best?
of course it is
Mmmm whacha say?
Mmmm that it's just what we need
you decided this
Mmmm whacha say?
Mmmm what did she say?

ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
speak no feeling no i don't believe you
you don't care a bit,
you don't care a bit

(hide and seek)
ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs

(hide and seek)
speak no feeling no i don't believe you
you don't care a bit,
you don't care a (you don't care a) bit

(hide and seek)
oh no, you don't care a bit
oh no, you don't care a bit

(hide and seek)
oh no, you don't care a bit
you don't care a bit
you don't care a bit
